What Causes Nighttime Allergies?

If you're tired of waking up sniffling and with itchy eyes, it's time to change your bedding. You may not realize it, but your seemingly innocuous pillow case may be the source of your allergy attacks at night and in the early morning.

Thousands of allergens or even bugs like dust mites could be hiding in your soft, cozy pillows. You might just need a new pillow case to get rid of those nighttime allergies and improve your sleep health! And, most importantly, a silk pillowcase.

What Causes Nighttime Allergies?

What causes allergic reactions while sleeping? There are a few possibilities, but the issue is most likely in your pillows.

Some of the most common allergens, such as dust, dust mites, mould, mildew, and pollen, can become trapped in your pillow and pillow case, causing health problems.

Dust mites

Dust mites are common invisible pests that live in bedding, carpet, and furniture. These microscopic bugs will not bite you, but they will feed on your daily supply of dead skin cells.

But how do they trigger allergies? We'll get right to it: when a dust mite goes to the bathroom, that can end up causing an allergic reaction. A dust mite colony living rent-free on your pillow for an extended period of time can even cause asthma.

Mildew and mold

Mold spores are invisible and, unfortunately, very common. They are frequently found in the air we breathe. Some molds produce a substance that can cause an allergic reaction.

Mildew is similar in that it refers to specific types of mold. If you have mold or mildew allergies, hypoallergenic pillow cases can be a lifesaver.

Additional allergens

Other common allergens that can disrupt your sleep and make your mornings difficult include:

• Pollen
• Pet dander if you have a pet
• Chemicals and chemical byproducts used in the textile manufacturing process

If you don't have an organic silk pillowcase, your pillow provides no allergen protection.

While you can't get comfortable or stop rubbing your itchy eyes, all that dirt and buildup is making a home in your pillow and bedding. If this describes you, consider purchasing a hypoallergenic night silk pillowcase.. And do so as soon as possible to protect both your health and your pillow!
